Analysis of social stratification in A DOLL’S HOUSE by Henrik Ibsan

Abstract

This research paper delves into the analysis of social stratification within Victorian society, with a specific focus on how class distinction, often involving the powerful oppressing the less privileged, is portrayed in Henrik Ibsen's play, "A Doll's House." The research study further investigates the conditions faced by servants and widows in this Victorian context. The primary objective of this research is to employ the Social Stratification Theory to examine the multifaceted aspects of class differentiation within the play. The chosen research methodology is analytical and qualitative analysis. The study's findings reveal that "A Doll's House" highlights discrimination based on wealth, gender, and societal norms, challenging these discriminatory elements as subversive to the broader society.
